Oct 21, 2012 - Volunteer to Feed the Homeless on Thanksgiving in San Diego
Posted by: | CommentsNo processed turkey rolls or instant potatoes here folks - we cook and serve real turkeys, house made pan gravy & fresh whole vegetables. This is the same kind of meal our families enjoy!
If you are looking for an opportunity to provide the Nov 22, 2012 Thanksgiving meal to the homeless, we have four volunteer shifts available on Nov 21-22, 2012. Three shifts are kitchen prep time and 1 shift is for serving the meal and clean-up. If you sign-up to serve, you must stay for clean-up, too. All shifts will meet at our kitchen in the shopping center at 4445 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92117. We will pack up the food, caravan together to the City of San Diego Winter Homeless shelter and one other location to serve the Thanksgiving meal and then return to the kitchen for a quick clean-up.
To sign-up to volunteer or get more information, all you need to do is click HERE, select the shift, register your name and then show up at your shift start time. No pre-training or long term committment is required. See our FAQ page for frequently asked questions.
Please wear closed toe shoes (like sneakers, NOT sandals, NOT flip-flops, NOT heels and NOT ugg boots), put your long hair up and wear comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting gravy on. Children over 8 may come with their parents to serve only. Children over 13 may help in kitchen prep time or serve with their parents however, ALL children must be supervised at all times by their parents. The kitchen can be a hot and cramped space. If either kids or their parents are misbehaving, then well, you know…that would not be fun for anyone. We enjoy what we do!!!
No experience is required, but this is a great opportunity for culinary students to get some professional kitchen experience and learn from San Diego chefs. If you are in the food business, this is a great place to volunteer (at Thanksgiving and throughout the year)!

We need real solutions for the women and families at the margins of our society worldwide. We encourage everyone to join our campaign to alleviate global poverty!”
Your contribution can help us changes the lives of women living in poverty in Liberia. Donated laptops can help women and family member complete school assignments, do research on the Internet, or keep important records. It can be the technology lifeline that makes the difference between success and failure.
