Nov 17, 2012 Volunteer to Cook and Serve Christmas Meal to San Diego Homeless
ByJust Call Us Volunteers is now accepting volunteer sign-ups to help prepare and serve the Christmas meal to residents at the City of San Diego Winter Homeless Shelter and the Veterans Winter Homeless Shelter.
There are 5 (4 hour) shifts available covering Christmas eve and Christmas day. We have kitchen prep only shifts and also a shift to serve the meal and clean-up. All meal preparation begins at the Just Call Us Volunteers kitchen, 4445 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92117 (in Clairemont). On Christmas we will load up the food and caravan together to the shelters to serve the meal, buffet style and return to the kitchen for clean-up. We will serve breakfast at the Veterans Shelter at 8:30 on Christmas and a late lunch at the City Shelter at 1:30. Everyone must meet at the kitchen first.
We have been doing this for years and it is always an enjoyable experience for everyone. Children, 8 years and older are welcome at the serving shift, but must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Children 14 and older are welcome at the kitchen prep shifts, but must be accompanied by an adult.
If you sign-up for the meal service, you must also return to the kitchen for clean-up!!!
Sign-up fills quickly. If registration is full, you will have an opportunity to go on the wait list, but we typically, don’t need to use it. Thanksgiving and Christmas are popular for folks to volunteer, but we hope you will check back with us in January 2013. We serve all throughout the year and will have a new schedule up after we recover from the holidays!
We use Eventbrite to register volunteers. Click HERE to learn more or to sign-up.
