Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who pays for all of this?

Just Call Us Volunteers projects have been supported by a combination of volunteer labor and cash donations from individual donors for supplies.  Sometimes companies donate cash or supplies to us.  Sometimes volunteers show up with supplies.  Cash or grocery store gift cards are always so helpful to us.  Great organizations like Specialty Product, Catalina Offshore Products, Sysco, Sprouts Market, McKean Defense Group, the Manchester Grand Hyatt and so many others make this organization possible.  We are so grateful.

I’ve never done this before and I don’t know how to cook:

It’s ok. There is a first time for everything. Our experienced chefs will make sure you are comfortable with whatever kitchen task you are given and they’ll even teach you knife skills. We often hear volunteers thanking us for teaching them so much about cooking. If you prefer to stay out of the kitchen there are plenty of other things you can help us with.

May I bring my children?

Yes! Pre-teens and teens really enjoy the experience. Children under 10 must at all times be under the watchful eyes of their parents.

 What should I wear?

We require closed-toed shoes and hair tied back at all times. Wear comfy clothes appropriate for kitchen work and serving guests. We will provide aprons while you are at the kitchen.

May I donate?

Yes please, we survive solely on donations. We have a Paypal account where you can donate or you can send a check. Checks should be made out to Just Call Us Volunteers. We have a list of most often used food and supplies.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes! Just Call Us Volunteers is a 501 (c)3 non profit charity.

How do I sign up to help?

Just click on the volunteer opportunitiesto see available dates and follow the directions or click on the donate tab to donate money.

Can I just show up/meet you to serve at the shelter?

We prefer that everyone meet at the kitchen. We divide evenly into groups and caravan to the shelters together. For security purposes, the shelters ask that we all arrive together rather than wandering in one at a time.

I don’t have all day but want to help. Can I come for part of the day?

YES! The only folks who have to be there from beginning to end are Julie, Kim and Angie. We know how busy everyone’s schedule. Just let us know your availability and we’ll do our best to place you within your availability.

What organizations do you partner with?

We are so grateful to collaborate with and have the support of  Specialty Produce, Olivewood Gardens, Alpha Project, Sentek Global, McKean Defense, Sprouts Farmers Markets, Tortillera Santa Fe, Catalina Offshore Products, Corner Cupcake, Manchester Grand Hyatt, United Way of San Diego, AT&T.
