BySAN DIEGO (Jan. 30, 2013) - Volunteers from Just Call Us Volunteers (JCUV) joined a number of local agencies to serve lunch to approximately 1,200 homeless adults and families at San Diego’s 7th annual Project Homeless Connect at Golden Hall today.
Project Homeless Connect, organized by the San Diego Housing Commission, is an annual one-day resource fair, that provides health screenings, flu shots, dental exams, haircuts, drug counseling, legal aid, housing counseling and other services for San Diego’s homeless families, veterans, seniors and disabled, according to the event’s website.
JCUV provided salad and bread as part of the lunch meal that included food donated by various organizations. Ten JCUV volunteers worked alongside other volunteers from Homeless Connect to serve the meal for the hundreds of homeless participating in Homeless Connect.
A separate group of volunteers prepared the salad the day prior at the JCUV kitchen in Clairemont Mesa.
Specialty Produce donated the salad ingredients and Sadie Rose Baking Company donated the bread.
“We have a fantastic group of volunteers that are always willing to step up and get involved,” said Julie Darling, JCUV’s founder and president. “I’m so grateful for everyone who came out to help us make a difference in the community.”
